Nowhere. That’s right, nowhere.
If that comes as a surprise to Apple AAPL +0.99%fans, there is an even bigger surprise for Xiaomi’s fans. It is not on the list either.
Last year, Xiaomi was occupying the second position on MIT’s list, well ahead ofApple AAPL +0.87%, which occupied the 16th position.
That’s a big climb from Xiaomi, which occupied 30th position on the list in the previous year. And big progress for Apple, too, which failed to make it to the list at all!
Is that an irregularity, or bad weighting criteria that favor an emerging versus an established technology company?
Possibly, as it is very unlikely for a company to change the way it combines “innovative technology with an effective business model,” the main criterion used by the MIT Review, from year to year.
Still, Apple is way down on the patent list, which is topped by IBM IBM +1.53% and Samsung.
